Russian Strike Near Ukraine Coffee Shop Kills Five as Civilians Flee Explosions
CCTV captures panic as residents escape deadly attack in Sumy
Five people have been killed and at least 30 others injured after Russian strikes hit the northeastern Ukrainian city of Sumy, with dramatic CCTV footage showing civilians rushing to safety as explosions erupted near a coffee shop.
Security cameras inside and outside the café captured the moment customers reacted to the blasts, with people seen dropping to the floor as the explosions were heard nearby.
Panic captured on camera
The footage showed three different views of the incident, including one camera outside the coffee shop and two inside the building.
As the explosions began, people inside the café immediately crouched down for protection. After the blasts stopped, customers and staff were seen moving quickly inside the shop while others attempted to escape the danger.
The footage highlights the fear and confusion experienced by civilians living near areas affected by the ongoing war.
Deadly strike hits Sumy
According to Sumy Mayor Artem Kobzar, the attack killed five people, including a 13-year-old girl, and injured at least 30 others.
The strike involved glide bombs, which hit parts of the city on Saturday, causing damage and casualties among civilians.
Emergency teams responded to the scene as authorities assessed the impact of the attack and provided assistance to those affected.
Ukraine war continues
The attack comes as fighting between Russia and Ukraine continues, with cities and communities near the front lines regularly facing missile, drone and bomb attacks.
Sumy, located in northeastern Ukraine near the Russian border, has experienced repeated strikes since the beginning of the conflict.
Ukrainian officials have continued to call for stronger international support, while Russia has maintained that its military operations are targeting strategic locations.
Civilian safety remains a major concern
The latest incident has once again highlighted the dangers faced by ordinary people living through the conflict.
Images and videos from areas affected by attacks have become a major way of documenting the impact of the war, showing the human consequences beyond the battlefield.
International organisations have repeatedly raised concerns about civilian casualties and the need to protect non-combatants during armed conflicts.
