Ugandan dance group fulfills lifelong dream after sharing the stage with global superstar
The Ghetto Kids have achieved one of the biggest milestones of their journey, delivering a memorable performance alongside global music icon Shakira during the 2026 FIFA World Cup halftime show.
The talented Ugandan dance group joined Shakira and Nigerian superstar Burna Boy as they performed the official 2026 FIFA World Cup anthem, “Dai Dai,” during the historic halftime spectacle at the World Cup final.
The performance marked a defining moment for the young dancers, who rose from the streets of Kampala to one of the world’s biggest sporting stages.
Sharing their excitement with their 9.8 million Instagram followers, the group posted highlights of the performance and reflected on how far they have come.
“Dreams really do come true. Performing at the World Cup Halftime Show with @shakira was an experience we will carry with us for a lifetime,” the group wrote.
Shakira’s invitation made the dream possible
The opportunity came after Shakira noticed a viral video of the Ghetto Kids performing an improvised dance routine to “Zoo,” a song from the Zootopia 2 soundtrack.
Impressed by their energy and creativity, the Colombian superstar invited them to join her on football’s biggest stage, turning a social media moment into a life-changing opportunity.
The collaboration became one of the standout highlights of the World Cup halftime show, which featured an all-star lineup of international performers.
From Kampala’s streets to global fame
Originally known as the Triplets Ghetto Kids, the dance collective is made up of talented children and teenagers from underprivileged communities in Kampala, Uganda.
Their breakthrough came in 2014 when they appeared in the music video for Ugandan artist Eddy Kenzo’s hit song “Sitya Loss.” The performance quickly went viral, introducing their extraordinary talent to audiences around the world.
The group reached another major milestone in 2023 after impressing millions during their successful run on Britain’s Got Talent, where their energetic performances earned widespread praise.
Since then, they have continued to build an international following through social media, inspiring young people across Africa and beyond.
