Jessica Alba has officially joined the cast of Netflix’s upcoming reboot of the beloved romantic comedy “13 Going on 30,” adding even more star power to the highly anticipated reimagining of the 2004 classic.
According to reports, Alba will star alongside Emily Bader, Logan Lerman, and Adeline Rudolph in the new adaptation. While details about her role remain under wraps, fans have welcomed the announcement with excitement as production gets underway.
Alba confirmed the news on Instagram, expressing her enthusiasm about becoming part of the iconic franchise.
“One of those movies that truly never gets old. Thrilled to be part of reimagining such an iconic film alongside an incredible cast and creative team,” she wrote.
Netflix has yet to reveal the film’s storyline, keeping plot details tightly guarded. However, the project is already generating buzz thanks to its impressive cast and creative team.
The reboot is being directed by Brett Haley, known for directing Netflix’s romantic comedy People We Meet on Vacation. The screenplay was written by Hannah Marks, with revisions by Flora Greeson.
One familiar face returning to the franchise is Jennifer Garner, who famously played Jenna Rink in the original film. Although she will not reprise her role, Garner is serving as an executive producer, helping guide the reboot for a new generation of audiences.
Released in 2004, 13 Going on 30 became one of the most beloved romantic comedies of its era. The film follows 13-year-old Jenna Rink, who makes a birthday wish after an embarrassing party and wakes up as her 30-year-old self.
As Jenna navigates adulthood overnight, she discovers that growing up is far more complicated than she imagined and learns valuable lessons about friendship, love and staying true to herself.
Garner starred opposite Mark Ruffalo, whose performance as childhood best friend Matt Flamhaff became a fan favourite. The film also featured memorable performances from Judy Greer and earned nearly $96 million at the global box office before gaining an even larger following through home entertainment and streaming platforms.
The new version will feature Emily Bader and Logan Lerman in the lead roles, with Taylor Ortega, Tim Meadows, Dan Bucatinsky, and Jessica Alba completing the cast.
Speaking to Netflix’s Tudum, director Brett Haley acknowledged the challenge of reimagining such a cherished film.
He described 13 Going on 30 as a “rare, perfect film,” praising its humour, emotional storytelling and unforgettable performances. Haley added that having Jennifer Garner involved as an executive producer makes the project even more meaningful.
Production is currently underway in Los Angeles, although Netflix has not yet announced an official release date.
