Overnight attacks hit warehouses linked to Russia’s largest online retailer as deadly strikes continue on both sides
Two warehouses linked to Wildberries were hit by Ukrainian strikes overnight on Monday, while another site reportedly connected to Russia’s largest online retailer was damaged near Moscow.
Five killed in Moscow region
Moscow region Governor Andrei Vorobyov said an industrial site in Chekhov, about 69 kilometres south of the Kremlin, was hit and caught fire. Five people were killed and 10 others injured.
Seven of those injured were reportedly in moderate condition, while another was seriously injured. Ukrainian media linked the damaged warehouse to Wildberries, with the site listed as associated with the company on Russia’s Yandex search engine.
Wildberries facilities targeted
Officials confirmed that two other Wildberries facilities were damaged in the St Petersburg and Tver regions.
Wildberries, often described as the “Russian Amazon”, has been targeted by Ukraine in recent weeks. Kyiv claims the company’s warehouses help supply the Russian military, an allegation Moscow denies.
The company confirmed that its facility in the St Petersburg region was hit but has not publicly commented on the other reported attacks.
Russia reports hundreds of drones intercepted
Russia’s Defence Ministry said its forces intercepted and destroyed 320 Ukrainian drones overnight.
Video verified by Reuters showed a Wildberries warehouse on fire, with a large plume of smoke rising from the building.
The Tver regional governor also confirmed damage to a Wildberries facility, while Russian state media reported that another warehouse operated by the company in the Samara region had been completely destroyed in an earlier strike.
Deadly Russian strikes in Ukraine
Meanwhile, Russian attacks across Ukraine killed at least four people.
Ukraine’s State Emergency Service said an 89-year-old woman was killed and seven people, including two girls aged two and 12, were injured in a strike on the southern city of Mykolaiv.
In Sumy, two women were killed in a residential area, while four others were injured. Russian strikes also injured two people in Bilhorod-Dnistrovskyi and caused a fire at a food warehouse in Dnipro.
Beach strike adds to tensions
The latest attacks came a day after a drone strike on a busy beach in southern Russia killed seven people and injured 58, according to Russian officials.
Verified footage showed a drone crashing and exploding as tourists watched from the beach and water. Russian officials accused Ukraine of deliberately targeting civilians, although Kyiv has not commented.
Both Russia and Ukraine deny deliberately targeting civilians.
