Nigerian media mogul and filmmaker Mo Abudu is expanding her creative empire to London with the development of EbonyLife Place London, a major new hub dedicated to African and Black storytelling.
Located on Wandsworth Road, the venue is being positioned as a cultural and creative destination where African cinema, fashion, music, food and art can reach audiences in the UK and beyond. The project includes a cinema dedicated to African films, alongside spaces for live entertainment, exhibitions, dining and retail.
The cinema will provide a permanent platform for African filmmakers and is expected to showcase films from across the continent, particularly Nollywood productions. Abudu has described the project as part of a broader effort to address the distribution challenges facing African filmmakers and give African stories greater visibility internationally.
Beyond film, EbonyLife Place London is designed as a wider cultural hub, featuring restaurants, a lounge, retail spaces and an art gallery. The project is also expected to create opportunities for African creatives to showcase and commercialise their work on the international stage.
The London expansion builds on the EbonyLife Place concept established in Lagos and represents another step in Abudu’s drive to position African storytelling within the global creative economy. The International Finance Corporation has described the London development as home to the UK’s first African-owned cinema and creative hub.
