Portuguese superstar hints at retirement after 25-year career
Cristiano Ronaldo believes this year will “probably” be his final season as a professional footballer, bringing his legendary career closer to an end.
The 41-year-old Portuguese forward made the comments in an interview with Vogue magazine, saying he wants to leave behind a “spectacular legacy”.
A record-breaking career
Ronaldo has established himself among football’s greatest players, scoring more than 950 goals for club and country.
The former Manchester United, Real Madrid and Juventus star has previously suggested that retirement could come within the next few years.
He said his life after football was already “all mapped out”, although he admitted there were too many possibilities to choose just one.
Life beyond football
Ronaldo said he plans to keep busy after retirement, mentioning travel and padel among the activities he enjoys.
He also acknowledged that leaving football could create a significant gap in his life after spending 25 years at the highest level.
“Because football could leave a big hole, you have to fill your time in various ways,” he said.
Looking back on 25 years
Ronaldo said he wants to enjoy what he has achieved with his family after years of sacrifice and dedication to the sport.
He recently married his longtime partner Georgina Rodriguez in an intimate ceremony in Portugal.
Final chapter approaching
After representing Portugal at the World Cup this summer, Ronaldo is expected to return to Saudi Arabia to begin another season with Al Nassr.
If this is indeed his final year, football could soon bid farewell to one of its most successful and recognisable stars.
