Kevin Lamour leaves weeks after opposing investment proposal
FIFA has sacked Chief Operating Officer Kevin Lamour less than three weeks after he publicly criticised president Gianni Infantino’s controversial plan to sell stakes in football competitions to private investors.
FIFA confirmed that its working relationship with Lamour ended on 17 August, saying the organisation and the executive had “agreed to part ways”.
Criticism of FFE plan
Lamour had described the proposed FIFA Forward Enterprise as “the project of one person” and said FIFA’s administration had been “deceived” over the plan.
He also criticised the leadership of the organisation, saying a president should unite and inspire people.
Pressure on Infantino
The FFE proposal was abandoned after plans to sell a 21% stake to private investment companies faced widespread opposition from football governing bodies.
UEFA and Concacaf opposed the proposal, while several national football associations have also withdrawn their support for Infantino ahead of next year’s FIFA presidential election.
Lamour’s FIFA career
Lamour joined FIFA in November 2024 after previously serving as deputy general secretary at UEFA.
FIFA thanked him for his two years of service and wished him well for the future.
