A Russian drone has struck a train near Ukraine’s border with Poland, shortly after former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson and other senior European security officials travelled through the area.

The strike hit the train’s engine at Yahodyn, about 2km from the Polish border. No casualties were reported, and Ukrainian authorities said all passengers had been evacuated.

Johnson and European security advisers, including the UK’s Jonathan Powell, had passed through the same railway line on another train after attending a conference in Kyiv. Former CIA chief David Petraeus was also reportedly at Yahodyn station when the attack occurred.

Ukraine’s railway company said the diplomatic train may have been the intended target, while Russia said it had targeted railway infrastructure.

The attack has prompted renewed calls for stronger air defences and increased pressure on Moscow, with Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk holding an emergency meeting over the incident.
