Speaking during his traditional Sunday noon blessing at the Vatican, Leo marked the 25th anniversary of the attacks in the United States, which killed thousands of people and left many others with lasting physical and emotional wounds.

The Pope offered prayers for the victims and those still affected by the tragedy. He also urged people to pray for peace as conflicts and violence continue to affect communities around the world.

Leo previously addressed the issue of violence and injustice shortly after the attacks, warning that hatred could continue to grow when people face extreme poverty and oppression.

His latest remarks come as wars and conflicts continue in several parts of the world, with the Pope using the anniversary to highlight the importance of peace, compassion and justice.
