Erling Haaland scored the decisive goal as Manchester City defeated Manchester United 1-0 in a dramatic Manchester derby despite playing with 10 men for more than 70 minutes.
City were reduced to 10 players when Phil Foden received a straight red card for kicking out at Bruno Fernandes. United then dominated for periods, hitting the post through Marcus Rashford and Kobbie Mainoo.
However, City struck on the counter-attack in the 60th minute when Haaland finished Josko Gvardiol’s deflected cross at the back post. The goal survived a lengthy VAR review after Haaland initially appeared offside.
United struggled to create clear chances despite their numerical advantage. Gianluigi Donnarumma made a late save from Bryan Mbeumo as City held on for victory.
The result maintained City’s perfect Premier League start and moved them level on points with Arsenal at the top of the table.
