Owen Ndlovu Memorial Set for Randburg

Family, friends and colleagues of former SABC Sports presenter Owen Ndlovu will gather on Wednesday, September 23, to honour his life following his death last week. The memorial service will take place at Walter Sisulu Hall at the Randburg Sporting Complex in Johannesburg from 11am to 4pm.

Family Invites Mourners

Eugene Mthethwa, Ndlovu’s family spokesperson and chairperson of Artists United, announced the arrangements. He invited relatives, friends and members of the public to join the family in remembering and celebrating Ndlovu’s life.

Venue Details

The memorial will be held near the intersection of Malibongwe Drive and Hans Schoeman Road in Randburg. The gathering will provide an opportunity for those who knew Ndlovu through broadcasting, music and his advocacy work to pay their respects.

Ndlovu Killed After Alleged Kidnapping

Ndlovu, 54, was found dead in Thokoza on September 16, hours after he was allegedly hijacked and kidnapped in Katlehong. Police said he had been on his way to collect his wife from a church service when the incident occurred.

Three Suspects Sought

According to Gauteng police spokesperson Colonel Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi, three men approached Ndlovu and his wife outside the church. One of the suspects was reportedly armed with a firearm. The men allegedly pushed his wife aside before forcing Ndlovu into the back of his Ford Raptor and driving away.

Body Found in Thokoza

Ndlovu’s body was discovered beside a road in Thokoza the following morning. Police said a postmortem would be conducted to establish the cause of death. His family later confirmed his death, while reports indicated he had suffered gunshot wounds.

Hijacked Vehicle Recovered

The Ford Raptor was later recovered abandoned in Walkerville. Police launched a manhunt for the three suspects and the Germiston Trio Crimes unit is continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the killing.

Police Investigation Continues

No arrests have been reported, and police have not established a motive for the killing. Authorities have continued to appeal for information that could help identify and locate those responsible.

Ndlovu’s Broadcasting Career

Ndlovu was a familiar figure in South African sports broadcasting during his years with the SABC. He later remained active in the creative sector through production work and his involvement in advocating for the rights of artists.

Funeral Set for September 25

Ndlovu’s funeral service is scheduled for Friday, September 25, at the Lenasia South Civic Centre. The service is expected to begin at 9am, followed by his burial at Westpark Cemetery at 11am.
