Bournemouth unhappy over Alex Scott injury
Bournemouth are frustrated with England’s handling of Alex Scott after the midfielder suffered a thigh injury that could keep him out for up to eight weeks.
Scott withdraws from England squad
Scott has left the England camp ahead of Tuesday’s Nations League match against the Czech Republic after a scan revealed a quadriceps injury. The 23-year-old is expected to be sidelined for six to eight weeks.
Injury was known before Croatia
Scott had experienced discomfort before England’s 7-0 victory over Croatia on Saturday but still started in midfield alongside Elliot Anderson. He played for 70 minutes before being substituted.
Bournemouth frustrated by handling
Sources indicate Bournemouth are unhappy with how England dealt with Scott’s condition because the national team was aware that he had been receiving treatment for the thigh problem before the Croatia match.
Tuchel defends England decision
England manager Thomas Tuchel described the injury as “a strange one” and said there had been no indication from Scott or the medical team that playing him carried significant risk. Tuchel said Scott had trained fully before the match and had even completed additional work afterwards.
Scott did not want to come off
Tuchel said England became aware of some discomfort during the Croatia match and asked Scott whether he wanted to be substituted. According to the manager, the midfielder said he wanted to continue and later indicated that he felt capable of playing the full match.
Lengthy absence for Bournemouth
Scott’s injury is a major setback for Bournemouth, who could be without him for nine matches between 10 October and 8 November. The run includes Premier League, Europa League and Carabao Cup fixtures.
European fixtures affected
During Scott’s expected absence, Bournemouth are scheduled to face Sturm Graz, AC Milan and Sparta Prague in the Europa League. They are also due to meet Aston Villa in the fourth round of the Carabao Cup.
Konsa also leaves England camp
Arsenal defender Ezri Konsa has also withdrawn from the England squad. Tuchel said the 28-year-old’s injuries were not considered major but that the medical team did not want to take unnecessary risks.
Tuchel explains Konsa decision
Konsa had experienced discomfort before the international break and later suffered another blow to his quadriceps against Croatia. He has returned to Arsenal for treatment.
Scott impressed on England debut
Scott made his England debut as a substitute in the 2-0 victory over the Czech Republic before making his first start against Croatia. His performance drew strong praise from Tuchel, who highlighted his confidence, decision-making, mobility and work rate.
Midfielder earns Tuchel praise
Tuchel said Scott had produced an outstanding first start and demonstrated qualities that could give England more options in central midfield. His injury comes as England are already dealing with several squad withdrawals.
Bournemouth face difficult spell
Scott joins forward Eli Junior Kroupi on Bournemouth’s injury list. Kroupi remains unavailable after suffering a foot injury during pre-season.
Cherries struggle in league
Bournemouth are currently 17th in the Premier League and have yet to win after five matches, recording three draws and two defeats.
European campaign begins positively
Marco Rose’s side progressed in the EFL Cup after defeating Lincoln and began their European campaign with a 2-1 victory away to Real Sociedad.
Chelsea visit next
Bournemouth return to Premier League action against Chelsea on Saturday, before facing Sunderland, Manchester United, Leeds and Ipswich ahead of the November international break.
