Riyadh Airport Attack Kills 12, Injures 300
At least 12 people have been killed and more than 300 injured in an attack on King Khalid International Airport in Saudi Arabia’s capital, Riyadh, according to the country’s civil aviation authority.
Victims from Several Countries
The fatalities included four Saudi nationals, two people from Bangladesh and one person each from the United States, Jordan, Palestine, Syria, Sudan and Egypt. More than 300 others were reported injured in Saturday’s attack.
Witnesses Describe Panic
An eyewitness who was at the airport said people were running as the incident unfolded. Video footage showed smoke rising from the airport following the attack.
Houthis Blamed for Strike
A Saudi-led coalition condemned the incident as a “war crime” and blamed Yemen’s Houthi rebels. The Houthis had not commented on Saturday’s attack at the time of the report, although they claimed responsibility for separate strikes on the same airport on Thursday.
Escalating Regional Conflict
The attack was described as the deadliest single assault on a Gulf Arab country since the war involving Israel, the United States and Iran began in February. The incident adds to concerns over the widening regional conflict and its impact on civilian safety and critical infrastructure.
