Connie Ferguson Seeks Eviction Over R549,000 Debt
South African actress and businesswoman Connie Ferguson is seeking to evict a couple from a Ruimsig property over an alleged R549,302 debt in unpaid rent, municipal utilities and related charges.
Couple Opposes Eviction
According to the Sunday Times, the couple filed a notice opposing the eviction application at the Johannesburg High Court on October 7, setting the stage for a contested legal dispute.
Dispute Over Property Payments
The case stems from a property sale agreement signed on October 28, 2025. The couple moved into the home on December 1 while awaiting the final transfer of ownership.
Under the agreement, they were required to pay R65,000 monthly in occupational rent, excluding additional charges. Ferguson alleges that payments fell into arrears, leaving a substantial amount unpaid.
Couple Cites Alleged Accountant Fraud
Reports indicate that the couple attributed their financial difficulties to alleged fraud involving their accountant. They reportedly paid R165,000 across May and June, but the outstanding balance remained unsettled by August.
Ferguson Cites Continued Occupation
Ferguson’s company argues that the couple’s continued occupation prevents it from using or selling the property.
In her affidavit, Ferguson maintained that the couple could find alternative accommodation without becoming homeless or relying on state assistance. The couple has formally opposed the application, and the dispute remains contested.
