Jackson Fires Aston Villa to Historic Win
Nicolas Jackson scored twice as Aston Villa thrashed Fenerbahce 6-0 in the Champions League, securing their first home victory of the season and their biggest European win in club history.
Villa rediscover their scoring touch
Unai Emery’s side produced a commanding performance at Villa Park after struggling to win at home during the opening weeks of the campaign.
Johan Manzambi and Jackson’s first-half goals put Villa firmly in control before Ross Barkley scored twice and Tammy Abraham added a late goal to complete the rout.
The result strengthened Villa’s position in the Champions League and extended their recent run to just one defeat in seven matches.
Emery sees signs of progress
Villa had collected only one point from their opening three Premier League home games, raising questions about their early-season form.
Emery said the team was gradually improving after a summer of significant changes that brought 10 new players into the squad. He acknowledged that more work remained but described the victory as an important step forward.
Former Villa captain Stiliyan Petrov also praised the team’s progress, saying the new signings were beginning to perform well together.
Jackson makes his mark
Jackson, who joined Villa as a £65 million signing to replace Ollie Watkins, continued his impressive start with two goals against Fenerbahce.
The Senegal international has now scored four goals in his last three games and five overall this season.
He missed the chance to complete a hat-trick when Barkley took a pre-arranged penalty, but Jackson said the team’s victory mattered more than his individual achievement.
Emery praised the striker’s finishing and defensive work, adding that he was doing an excellent job for the team.
New signings strengthen Villa’s attack
Manzambi impressed with his movement, while Ibrahim Mbaye offered pace and attacking options. Goalkeeper Zion Suzuki also made important saves to help maintain Villa’s control.
Leon Goretzka made his debut as a late substitute, adding another option to Emery’s squad.
Villa will now turn their attention to Saturday’s Premier League trip to Newcastle, hoping to carry their European momentum into domestic competition.
