Kvaratskhelia Faces ACL Surgery
Paris Saint-Germain winger Khvicha Kvaratskhelia will undergo surgery after rupturing his anterior cruciate ligament during his team’s 4-2 Champions League victory over Barcelona on Tuesday.
Serious Knee Injury
The 25-year-old Georgia international suffered the injury following a challenge with Barcelona’s Xavi Espart. He was unable to put weight on his right leg and was substituted in the 59th minute.
PSG confirmed the ruptured ACL but have not provided a timeline for his return. The injury is a major setback for the winger, who has featured 11 times for the French champions this season.
PSG Confirm Further Injuries
Kvaratskhelia is not the only PSG player facing a spell on the sidelines. The club confirmed that forward Ousmane Dembele and captain Marquinhos will also be unavailable for a few weeks.
Dembele sustained an injury to his left thigh, while Marquinhos injured his right thigh. The club has not provided further details about their recovery schedules.
Champions League Victory
Despite the injuries, PSG maintained their winning start to their Champions League title defence with a 4-2 victory over Barcelona at Parc des Princes.
The sides were level at 2-2 heading into the final 10 minutes before PSG scored twice late in the match to secure all three points.
The result left PSG top of the Champions League table with three wins from three matches.
Setback for Defending Champions
Kvaratskhelia joined PSG from Napoli in January 2025 and has played an important role in the club’s recent European success. He helped the French side secure consecutive Champions League titles following his arrival.
His absence could affect PSG’s attacking options as the club continues its title defence, although the length of his recovery remains uncertain.
