Jay-Z to Headline Super Bowl LXI Halftime Show in 2027
American rapper Jay-Z has been announced as the headline performer for the Super Bowl LXI halftime show, marking his first appearance as a performer at the NFL’s championship game.
The National Football League (NFL), Apple Music and Jay-Z’s entertainment company, Roc Nation, confirmed the announcement on Monday, 26 October. The performance is scheduled for 14 February 2027 at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California, near Los Angeles. <Cite refs={[“turn631429search0″,”turn631429search2”]}/>
The announcement marks a major milestone for the hip-hop star, whose company has helped produce the Super Bowl halftime show since partnering with the NFL in 2019. Although Jay-Z has played a central role in selecting performers for the annual event, he has never previously taken the stage himself.
The rapper, whose real name is Shawn Carter, said the opportunity represented a significant moment in his career, which spans three decades.
“From ‘Reasonable Doubt’ to standing on the Super Bowl halftime stage, this has been a journey,” Jay-Z said in a statement.
“Thirty years of music, work, and culture on the world’s biggest stage. This run continues to be a dream come true.”
NFL welcomes Jay-Z’s performance
NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell expressed excitement about the announcement, praising Jay-Z’s influence on the halftime show and his contribution to its development over the years.
Goodell revealed that when the NFL first reached an agreement with Roc Nation, he had one request: that Jay-Z eventually perform at the Super Bowl himself when the time felt right.
He said he was looking forward to audiences experiencing the rapper’s artistry, creativity and cultural impact on one of the world’s biggest entertainment stages.
Since the partnership began, Roc Nation has helped bring internationally recognised performers to the Super Bowl, including Shakira, Jennifer Lopez, The Weeknd, Rihanna, Usher, Kendrick Lamar and Bad Bunny.
The halftime show has become one of the most watched musical performances of the year, attracting audiences far beyond American football fans.
Beyoncé among possible guest performers
Following the announcement, attention quickly turned to which artists might join Jay-Z during the performance.
The NFL pointed to the speculation surrounding potential guest appearances, with his wife, global superstar Beyoncé, among the names likely to attract attention from fans.
However, no guest performers have been officially confirmed.
Beyoncé has previously headlined the Super Bowl halftime show and made a guest appearance during another performance. A reunion with Jay-Z on the stage would therefore be a notable moment for fans of the couple’s music, although any involvement remains unannounced.
Jay-Z’s extensive musical catalogue and connections across the entertainment industry could also create opportunities for appearances by other major artists.
Announcement follows milestone concerts
The announcement came after Jay-Z performed shows at SoFi Stadium as part of celebrations marking the 30th anniversary of his debut album, Reasonable Doubt, released in 1996.
The album helped establish his position in hip-hop, beginning a career that would extend into music production, business, philanthropy and entertainment.
Jay-Z has earned 25 Grammy Awards and became the first rapper inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame. He was also inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2021.
His upcoming Super Bowl appearance will add another major milestone to a career that has influenced music and popular culture for decades.
With the date and venue confirmed, anticipation is expected to build as fans await further announcements about the production and possible special guests.
