Anthony Joshua Crash Driver Trial Adjourned to November 17

The trial of Adeniyi Mobolaji Kayode, the driver involved in the December 2025 crash that injured heavyweight boxer Anthony Joshua and killed two members of his team, has been adjourned to November 17.

The case was adjourned on Thursday from September 10 as proceedings continued at a magistrate court in Ogun State over charges connected to the fatal accident on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

Kayode, 46, is facing several charges related to the crash, including dangerous driving causing death, reckless and negligent driving, driving without due care and attention, and operating a vehicle without a valid national driver’s licence.

Prosecutors allege that Kayode was attempting to overtake another vehicle when the SUV carrying Joshua and members of his team crashed into a stationary truck.

The accident occurred on December 29 as the group was travelling to Ogun State to visit Joshua’s father. The crash resulted in the deaths of Joshua’s personal trainer, Latif Ayodele, and his strength and conditioning coach, Sina Ghami.

Anthony Joshua survived the crash and sustained injuries before later being discharged from hospital. The British-Nigerian boxer, a two-time world heavyweight champion, was among those travelling in the vehicle when the collision occurred.

The deaths of Ayodele and Ghami shocked Joshua’s team and the boxing community, with both men having played important roles in the champion’s career and training.

The trial, which began in January, is expected to continue as the court considers the evidence surrounding the circumstances of the accident.

Police previously told the court that both vehicles involved in the crash had been removed from the scene before investigators arrived. The development has formed part of the proceedings as authorities work to establish what happened before the collision.

The latest adjournment means the case will now return to court on November 17, when further proceedings are expected.

The charges against Kayode remain allegations, and the court will determine his legal responsibility based on the evidence presented during the trial.

The case continues to attract attention because of Joshua’s international profile and the loss of two close members of his professional team in the accident.
