US actor Nicholas Brendon, best known for his role in Buffy the Vampire Slayer, has died at the age of 54.

His family confirmed in a statement that he passed away peacefully in his sleep from natural causes.

Brendon rose to fame playing Xander Harris, the loyal best friend to Buffy, portrayed by Sarah Michelle Gellar, throughout the show’s seven-season run from 1997 to 2003. His performance earned him multiple Saturn Award nominations and made him a fan favorite in the cult series.

Following news of his passing, Gellar paid tribute by sharing a heartfelt message inspired by one of his memorable monologues, expressing admiration and acknowledging his quiet strength.

Co-star Alyson Hannigan also honored him, remembering their years of friendship and shared moments on and off set.

Beyond Buffy, Brendon appeared in popular television series such as Criminal Minds, Private Practice, and Kitchen Confidential, along with films including Psycho Beach Party and Redwood.

In later years, he developed a passion for painting and visual art, which his family described as a true reflection of his personality and creativity.

Brendon was open about his personal challenges, including health issues and struggles with addiction and mental health, while also advocating for awareness as a spokesperson for the Stuttering Foundation of America.

His family shared that he remained hopeful and committed to his recovery in recent times, remembering him as a passionate and sensitive individual whose legacy will live on through his work and impact.
