South African and Indian Heritage Meet

The 2026 Art of Collaboration Jaipur Edition brought together South African fashion, beauty, jewellery and design brands to explore the connection between South African creativity and India’s craftsmanship. Under the theme “Heritage in Dialogue, Luxury Redefined”, Jaipur’s palaces, architecture, textiles and jewellery traditions formed part of the project’s visual storytelling.

Bryoni Govender Explores Identity

South African model and media personality Bryoni Govender played a central role in the project. Her South African-Indian heritage added a personal dimension to themes of identity, belonging and cultural heritage, expressed through fashion, photography and film.

Film Wins International Recognition

The resulting film, Where I Belong, was directed by Paula Zapata, with Maropeng Vushangwe as director of photography. It went on to win Best Experimental Short Film at the London Women Film Festival, bringing international recognition to the creative project.

Cape Island Takes Luxury Abroad

Cape Island, known for fragrances inspired by South Africa’s landscapes and sense of place, used the collaboration to present its identity in an international setting. Suzanne of Cape Island said seeing the brand represented in Jaipur was a proud moment, highlighting the distinctive story South African luxury has to tell through its landscapes, creativity and cultural roots.

Connecting Two Luxury Destinations

The project connected the grandeur of The Leela Palace Jaipur with the South African landscapes that inspire Cape Island’s fragrances. Lanzerac Hotel and Spa in South Africa and The Leela Palace Jaipur also contributed to the hospitality element linking the two destinations.

The Art of Collaboration Expands Globally

Founded in 2019 by South African designer Stephen Van Eeden, The Art of Collaboration brings creative disciplines together around a destination and shared theme. Before Jaipur, the project visited New York, Cape Town, Paris and Marrakech, making India its fifth destination.

The latest edition highlighted how fashion, design and film can connect cultures while giving South African creative talent greater international exposure. For Cape Island, the collaboration provided another opportunity to showcase South African luxury while staying connected to its origins.
