Demolition of structures in the protected buffer zone of the Kpeshie Lagoon has started in Laboma Beach, in the La Dade-Kotopon Municipality of the capital city of Accra.
The demolition process started early on Sunday, September 13, 2026, with a few beach clubs and restaurants already demolished.
The demolition process comes after the issue of an ultimatum by the Greater Accra Regional Security Council (REGSEC) on August 7.
The REGSEC had directed that the people living and running businesses within the buffer zone of the lagoon vacate the premises voluntarily.
The structures mentioned in the notice include Pink Flamingo, ULA Beach Club, Trophy, Bliss Escape, Amsterdam Kitchen, Si Beach Resort and Alora Beach Resort.
This is done with an aim to demolish the structures built in the protected buffer zone of the Kpeshie Lagoon.
The demolition process has affected many businesses that run along the Laboma beachfront.
An earlier attempt was made for voluntary demolition of the structures after the REGSEC directive.
This current process is, however, the enforcement process of the directive and the clearing up of structures in the buffer zone.
