Don Jazzy denies favouritism allegations against Mavin Records artists
Nigerian music producer, Don Jazzy, has debunked claims that Mavin Records has preference for some artists over others in the label.
In a recent episode of Crea8torium, the award-winning music executive revealed that it makes absolutely no sense for a record label to spend money on an artist without promoting them.
Don Jazzy further stated that most artists decide on how many songs to release within a year by themselves and not by the management. According to him, an artist may decide to drop just a few tracks and this could be because they are not ready rather than the label management failing them.
He mentioned factors like imposter syndrome, anxiety and overthinking among artists could make them feel like they are not been promoted.
“We do see lots of comments that we do not prioritise some artists. But that isn’t true,” he said. “We obviously invest in people to make money for themselves and for the label, so the idea that we would intentionally ignore an artist is not realistic.”
He added that a lot of artists do not have self confidence even though they may have enough material that can be used to produce many songs.
“If an artist has one million songs and they want to release them, we can release them. Most of them actually have imposter syndrome. It’s normal because we are all human beings so sometimes they panic and overthink things,” he revealed.
The producer reiterates that no artists in the Mavin Records label is been prioritized over another.
