Fifa Investigating Alleged Racist Abuse of IShowSpeed at World Cup Match

Incident Allegedly Took Place During Argentina’s Victory Over Cape Verde

Fifa has launched an investigation into allegations of racist abuse involving American content creator and streamer IShowSpeed during Argentina’s World Cup match against Cape Verde.

Omega Tv UK WhatsApp channel

The incident reportedly occurred on July 3 at the Hard Rock Stadium during Argentina’s dramatic 3-2 victory in the Round of 32 of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

IShowSpeed, whose real name is Darren Jason Watkins Jr, is one of the world’s biggest online personalities, boasting more than 57 million subscribers on YouTube and 53 million followers on TikTok.

Fifa Opens Investigation

Football’s governing body confirmed that it became aware of the incident and immediately launched an inquiry.

“The FIFA World Cup is a celebration of unity, diversity and respect,” the organisation said in a statement.

“It brings together people, cultures and communities from around the world and anyone who acts in a manner that undermines these values is not welcome in our game.”

The governing body did not provide further details about the nature of the alleged abuse or identify those involved.

Confrontation Captured on Livestream

Footage posted on IShowSpeed’s YouTube channel shows the 21-year-old, who was wearing a Cape Verde national team shirt, involved in a heated confrontation with an Argentina supporter inside the stadium.

The video quickly spread across social media, sparking widespread discussion among fans and renewed concerns about discriminatory behaviour at sporting events.

IShowSpeed has become one of the most recognisable personalities at the tournament, regularly live-streaming matches and interacting with players, fans and football legends.

During the World Cup, his broadcasts have featured appearances from FIFA president Gianni Infantino and former football star Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

Racism in Football Under Renewed Spotlight

The investigation comes only days after another racism controversy involving France captain Kylian Mbappe.

Mbappe recently condemned Paraguayan senator Celeste Amarilla after she made controversial comments on social media mocking his origins and education following France’s victory over Paraguay in the World Cup.

The French Football Federation subsequently announced plans to pursue criminal charges, describing the remarks as “utterly abhorrent and unacceptable.”

Fifa Reaffirms Commitment Against Discrimination

The latest incident involving IShowSpeed has once again highlighted the challenges football faces in combating racism and discrimination.

Fifa has repeatedly stated that there is no place for racism in football and has introduced several campaigns aimed at promoting inclusion, diversity and respect throughout the game.

As investigations continue, many fans and anti-racism groups are calling for swift action and strong measures to ensure discriminatory behaviour is not tolerated during the world’s biggest sporting event.
