Tuju

Former Kenyan cabinet minister Raphael Tuju has resurfaced after briefly going missing, revealing that he deliberately went into hiding due to safety concerns.

Speaking to Citizen TV, Tuju said he suspected he was being followed by an unmarked vehicle, prompting him to take evasive action. He reportedly changed routes and eventually abandoned his car to avoid being tracked.

His disappearance had raised alarm after he was last seen heading to a radio interview. His family later reported him missing, leading authorities to launch an investigation.

Police discovered his vehicle in Karen, an affluent suburb of Nairobi, with hazard lights on and his phone switched off at the time.

Tuju described the ordeal as distressing for his family and said his actions were influenced by fears stemming from previous abduction cases in Kenya. He also explained why he initially avoided contacting the police.

The former minister is currently entangled in a legal dispute involving his company, Dari Limited, with lenders seeking to recover over $15 million in unpaid loans — a claim he is contesting in court.

Opposition figures have welcomed his reappearance but renewed concerns over alleged abductions, urging authorities to uphold the rule of law and ensure citizens’ safety.
