Tragedy struck in Cambridgeshire on Tuesday evening when a car carrying five teenagers crashed into the River Nene near Wisbech. Emergency services responded after the vehicle left the road at around 8:20 pm.
Specialist dive teams recovered the body of a teenage girl on Wednesday afternoon, confirming the worst fears. Authorities are still searching for a missing male passenger from the vehicle.
Two females and one male managed to escape and were taken to Queen Elizabeth Hospital in King’s Lynn with injuries described as non-life-threatening.
The incident occurred while the vehicle was travelling southbound on North Brink in Wisbech St Mary’s. The road remains closed as emergency personnel continue their operations, including forensic investigations along the riverbank.
Police are appealing to the public for any witnesses or dashcam footage that could help in piecing together the events leading up to the crash.
