BBC Radio 1 presenter Greg James has shared new details from the highly anticipated wedding of pop superstar Taylor Swift and NFL player Travis Kelce, describing the celebration as an “amazingly strange but exciting dream.”

James returned to his Breakfast Show on Wednesday after travelling to New York City to attend the couple’s wedding, which took place on Friday, 3 July. The ceremony had been surrounded by secrecy, with speculation and excitement growing in the days leading up to the event.

The radio host attended the wedding with his wife, author Bella Mackie, and admitted he had to keep the invitation a secret from almost everyone.

“I couldn’t even tell my boss,” James said. “I just took annual leave.”

A Guest List Filled With Celebrities

Rumours surrounding the wedding suggested that around 1,000 guests attended, including some of the biggest names from the worlds of music, film and sport.

Speaking on his radio programme, James described the event as being packed with famous faces.

“Every 10 seconds it was a room full of the most famous people in the world,” he said.

He compared the experience to visiting a wax museum, joking that it felt like “going to Madame Tussauds, but the wax figures were alive and talking back.”

Among the memorable moments from the evening, James revealed that he spent time with actor Hugh Grant and his wife, describing the experience as surreal.

Secret Preparations Before the Wedding

The invitation had reportedly been planned for some time. Last year, Taylor Swift confirmed during an interview on Radio 1 that James would be invited to her wedding.

As the date approached, fans questioned whether he would actually attend, especially after he appeared at the Crossed Wires podcast festival in Sheffield just a day before the ceremony.

However, cryptic posts on social media eventually confirmed that he had made the trip to New York to witness the celebrity couple exchange vows.

James later shared photographs from the visit, including behind-the-scenes moments and images from various tourist attractions around the city.

Unlimited Food and a Party Atmosphere

While keeping many details private, James did reveal some fun aspects of the celebration.

According to the presenter, there was no traditional sit-down dinner, but guests enjoyed unlimited food throughout the event.

“There were multiple cakes,” he said, adding that the reception had a lively and relaxed atmosphere.

Guests were also invited to dance on stage while the DJ performed, an opportunity that James admitted he happily accepted.

Joking about the celebrations, he said the “first 10,000 drinks were free,” leading to what he described as an “incredible hangover.”

Wedding Keepsakes

The presenter also admitted to taking home two small decorative doilies as souvenirs from the special occasion.

As for fashion, James revealed that his wife brought several dresses for the trip, while he chose to wear the same suit he previously wore to the funeral of Long Boi, the famous University of York duck that became a social media sensation.

The wedding has continued to capture public attention, with fans eager to learn more about one of the year’s most talked-about celebrity events.
