“Hacks” star Jean Smart has won her eighth Primetime Emmy Award, tying the record for the most acting wins in Emmy history.
Smart secured the award during the 78th Primetime Emmy Awards, where “Hacks” was among the leading contenders of the night. Her latest victory adds to an already celebrated television career and places her alongside the actors who hold the record for the most Emmy acting wins.
The ceremony is being hosted by “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit” star Mariska Hargitay, who opened television’s biggest awards night with a celebrity-filled musical performance.
The 78th Primetime Emmy Awards are taking place at the Peacock Theater in Downtown Los Angeles, bringing together some of the biggest names in television.
Among the stars turning heads on the red carpet were Zendaya, Nicole Kidman, Colman Domingo and Matthew Rhys, with British talent also strongly represented at this year’s ceremony.
Medical drama “The Pitt” entered the awards as the leading nominee, receiving 25 nominations. The series was followed closely by comedy “Hacks”, while newcomer “Widow’s Bay” earned 19 nominations.
Several British stars were also in contention for major awards, including Matthew Rhys, who received two nominations, as well as Riz Ahmed, Carey Mulligan, Gary Oldman and Rufus Sewell.
Smart’s latest Emmy win is one of the major highlights of the ceremony, further cementing her status as one of television’s most accomplished performers.
