Hayden Panettiere Death Linked to Suspected Fentanyl-Laced Oxycodone

Actress Hayden Panettiere’s death is being investigated amid reports that she may have taken an oxycodone pill laced with fentanyl before her death in South Carolina on August 16.

Panettiere, best known for her roles in Heroes and Nashville, died at the age of 36 after being found unresponsive at a residence in Greenville. Emergency responders arrived after receiving a call reporting a woman in cardiac arrest and attempted to revive her, but she was pronounced dead at 2:32 p.m.

According to reports, investigators are examining whether a potentially contaminated oxycodone pill played a role in her death. Authorities are also reportedly investigating the source of prescription medications Panettiere may have obtained through a long-term drug supplier in Los Angeles.

Investigators are attempting to establish where the suspected pill came from and whether it was obtained before Panettiere travelled from California to South Carolina.

Reports indicate that Panettiere had a bag containing several medications with her when she died. Her on-and-off boyfriend, Brian Hickerson, reportedly showed the medications to police following her death. The specific drugs identified in the police report have not been publicly disclosed.

The Greenville County Coroner’s Office has confirmed that an autopsy found no signs of trauma that contributed to Panettiere’s death. However, officials have stressed that the official cause and manner of death remain pending while toxicology testing and additional investigations are completed.

Emergency dispatch audio reportedly indicated that responders were dealing with a possible overdose, while Narcan, a medication used to reverse opioid overdoses, was also found at the residence. Panettiere’s boyfriend was later reported to have administered Narcan in an attempt to save her.

The investigation has expanded beyond South Carolina, with authorities reportedly examining possible connections to a drug supplier in Los Angeles. However, the suspected fentanyl-laced pill has not been officially confirmed as the cause of death, as toxicology results remain outstanding.

Panettiere’s death has renewed attention on her long-publicised struggles with addiction. The actress had previously spoken openly about substance abuse and other personal challenges, including in her memoir released earlier this year.

Panettiere rose to fame as a child actress before becoming internationally known for playing cheerleader Claire Bennet in Heroes. She later starred as country singer Juliette Barnes in Nashville and appeared in films including Remember the Titans and the Scream franchise.

She leaves behind her 11-year-old daughter, Kaya, whom she had with former heavyweight boxing champion Wladimir Klitschko.

Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding Panettiere’s death, with toxicology results expected to help determine whether drugs were responsible and establish the official cause and manner of death.
