Ali Larijani, a top security figure in Iran, has reportedly been killed, according to claims by Israel Katz, Israel’s defence minister. Iranian authorities have not yet confirmed the report.
If verified, his death would mark a major blow to Iran’s leadership during a period of rising tensions, following earlier strikes that reportedly killed Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.
Larijani was a key figure in Iran’s political and security structure, having led the Supreme National Security Council and played a major role in shaping the country’s nuclear strategy. He also served as Iran’s chief negotiator in talks with Western powers and supported the 2015 nuclear deal.
In recent years, he remained active in diplomacy while defending Iran’s nuclear programme, warning that external pressure could push the country toward more aggressive policies.
His reported death comes at a critical moment as regional conflict continues to intensify.
