Fourteen people, including women, have lost their lives in a boat accident that occurred in the Yauri Local Government Area of Kebbi State, Nigeria. The accident happened over the weekend, shortly after a wedding ceremony.
The victims were on their way back from Gwarzo village in Ngaski Local Government Area, where they had escorted a bride to her husband’s home, when the boat that had over 100 passengers capsized at Gumbi village. Thirteen women and a child lost their lives in the accident.
The incident was described as a heartbreaking tragedy by Governor Nasir Idris, who said that it has cast a shadow over the state. The governor, who was represented at the prayer session by the Yauri Local Government Chairman, Abubakar Shuaibu, asked the affected families and the people of the state to accept the loss as the will of Almighty Allah.
