25 injured after Russian strike hits Kharkiv apartment block

A Russian strike hit a residential apartment building in Kharkiv’s Saltivskyi district at around 4am on Monday, injuring 25 people, including nine children. Ukrainian authorities said the strike damaged the lower floors of the nine-storey building.

Two Floors Destroyed

The impact struck around the second floor and caused major structural damage to the second and third floors. Authorities said the apartments in the affected entrance were damaged, while emergency crews worked to secure the building and clear debris.

32 Residents Rescued

Emergency workers rescued 32 people from the damaged building. Rescue teams, police officers and medical personnel remained at the scene as they searched the affected areas and cleared the aftermath of the strike.

Nine Children Injured

Nine children between the ages of three and 15 were among those injured. Two boys, aged eight and 12, were taken to hospital, while a 14-year-old girl was also later hospitalised. Other injured children received medical attention at the scene.

Victims Treated for Stress

Authorities said the victims suffered injuries as well as acute reactions to stress. Medical teams continued treating residents affected by the attack as emergency crews dealt with the damaged building.

Weapon Type Under Investigation

Investigators were working to establish the exact weapon used in the attack. Ukrainian authorities said preliminary assessments suggested it may have been a guided aerial munition, but the investigation was still ongoing.

Wider Kharkiv Attack

The apartment strike was part of a wider overnight Russian attack on Kharkiv. Other areas of the city were also hit, with residential properties damaged in the Kyivskyi district.

Kyiv Also Targeted

The overnight attacks extended beyond Kharkiv. Four people were reported injured in Kyiv, while Ukrainian authorities also reported damage and casualties from attacks in other areas.

Kharkiv Faces Repeated Strikes

Kharkiv, a major city in northeastern Ukraine, has faced repeated Russian attacks since Russia launched its full-scale invasion. Residential areas and civilian infrastructure have frequently been affected during the continuing conflict.

Investigation Continues

Ukrainian authorities have opened a criminal investigation into the Kharkiv strike. Rescue and emergency operations continued as officials assessed the damage and provided assistance to affected residents.
