Leaked Video of King Misuzulu and Queen Nomzamo Sparks Debate Across South Africa
A leaked video allegedly showing AmaZulu King Misuzulu kaZwelithini in a heated argument with his wife, Queen Nomzamo Myeni, has sparked widespread debate across South Africa, with many expressing concern about the couple’s relationship and the issues raised in the footage.
The four-minute video, which began circulating online on Thursday, reportedly shows the King shouting at Queen Nomzamo while holding what appears to be a green beer bottle.
A woman speaking Siswati can be heard in the background attempting to calm the situation.
Allegations and Heated Exchange
During the confrontation, the King accuses Queen Nomzamo of being unfaithful with a member of the Shembe Church and criticises her conduct as a royal wife.
He also takes issue with her social media activity and a recent visit she made to the Kaizer Chiefs camp, which she shared online.
“She’s out there without my permission. When you’re someone’s wife, you ask for permission to go to some places,” the King says in the video.
The footage also reportedly captures the monarch making derogatory remarks about the leader of the Shembe Church.
At one point, Queen Nomzamo appears visibly distressed and quietly tells the camera: “This is the life that I live, day and night.”
It remains unclear when the video was recorded or what led to the argument.
Social Media Divided
The leaked footage has generated thousands of reactions on social media, with South Africans sharply divided over the incident.
Media personality Sizwe Dhlomo briefly reacted to the video on X, formerly Twitter, posting: “SMH.”
Some users defended the King, arguing that his concerns about royal protocol and public conduct were overshadowed by the fact that the confrontation was recorded and leaked.
Others expressed sympathy for Queen Nomzamo, saying the footage highlighted concerns about relationships and the treatment of women in prominent families.
Several users questioned why criticism appeared to focus more on the recording of the incident than on the remarks allegedly made during the argument.
Debate Over Royal Life and Public Scrutiny
The incident has reignited discussions around domestic relationships, gender dynamics and the pressures faced by members of South Africa’s royal households.
It has also sparked conversations about privacy, respect for traditional institutions and the challenges of living under constant public scrutiny.
Members of the Zulu royal family have frequently found themselves at the centre of public attention in recent years, with personal and leadership matters often becoming subjects of national debate.
No Official Response Yet
At the time of publication, neither King Misuzulu nor Queen Nomzamo Myeni had released an official statement regarding the leaked footage.
Queen Nomzamo’s last social media post, shared on 5 July, featured a video of happier moments with the King accompanied by a praise singer.
Meanwhile, the King’s official Instagram account recently posted footage of him meeting with Mmusi Maimane, leader of the Build One South Africa, with the Queen also in attendance.
As discussions continue online, the video has once again placed South Africa’s royal family under the spotlight, prompting wider conversations about relationships, tradition and the responsibilities that come with public life.
