Liverpool FC has strongly condemned racist abuse directed at defender Ibrahima Konaté, describing it as “dehumanising, cowardly and rooted in hate.”
The abuse followed Liverpool’s midweek UEFA Champions League victory over Galatasaray, where Konaté was involved in an incident that left striker Victor Osimhen with a fractured arm.
In an official statement, Liverpool expressed outrage over the online attacks, stressing that players should never be treated as targets.
“Our players are not targets. They are human beings,” the club said, calling the ongoing abuse a “stain on the game.”
The club also urged social media companies to take stronger action, arguing that the technology already exists to curb such behavior but is not being fully enforced.
Liverpool confirmed it is supporting Konaté and working with authorities to identify those responsible.
This incident adds to a growing pattern of racist abuse in football. Recently, players including Wesley Fofana, Hannibal Mejbri, Tolu Arokodare, and Romaine Mundle have all reported similar abuse online.
Anti-discrimination organization Kick It Out has once again called for urgent action, warning that racism continues to plague the sport at all levels.
Liverpool emphasized that the situation must be addressed immediately, insisting that silence and inaction only allow hate to spread further across the game.
