R&B star apologises to fans as Pretoria and Cape Town shows are called off
Grammy-winning R&B singer-songwriter Maxwell has cancelled his upcoming concerts in South Africa, disappointing fans who had been looking forward to seeing the star perform live.
Shows cancelled
Promoter Vertex Events announced that Maxwell’s concerts, originally scheduled for August 8 in Pretoria and August 11 in Cape Town, will no longer take place.
The promoter said the decision was due to unforeseen circumstances beyond the singer’s control.
Rescheduling proved difficult
Vertex Events said several options were explored with Maxwell’s management in an effort to save the concerts, but none of the alternatives proved workable.
Attempts to find new dates in 2026 were also unsuccessful because of unavoidable scheduling conflicts.
Fans to receive refunds
Fans who purchased tickets will receive full refunds. Vertex Events said Webtickets will contact customers directly with information about the refund process.
Maxwell plans South Africa return
Despite the cancellations, Maxwell remains committed to returning to South Africa.
Vertex Events said discussions are already underway to secure new concert dates in 2027, giving fans hope that the singer will eventually bring his performance to the country.
