Millicent Omanga accuses Prez. Ruto of betrayal, joins opposition party DCP

Former Nominated Senator Millicent Omanga on Monday revealed the reason behind her falling out with President William Ruto, accusing him of breaking promises made during the 2022 General Elections.

According to Omanga, Ruto had pledged in his women’s charter that there would be a 50/50 gender ratio in appointments. However, she said that promise had not been fulfilled. She also cited other broken promises, including the provision of sanitary towels for schoolgirls and diapers for women in public hospitals.

“These were all campaign strategies. They were not meant to be implemented,” said Omaga on Monday.

She further disclosed that she had rejected an appointment to the Nairobi Rivers Regeneration Commission board on grounds that it would affect her supporters since it involved demolishing structures along riverbanks.

This comes at a time when Omanga announced that she had joined Rigathi Gachagua’s Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP), which is an opposition party.

While addressing the press at the party headquarters on March 19, Omanga apologized to Nairobi residents on behalf of Ruto, citing that she had been lied to by Ruto. “I was wrong. He lied to all of us,” said Omanga.
