Nigeria’s creative industry is really making an impact around the world with its music films, literature, fashion and digital content. People everywhere are enjoying the work of creatives. But there is a problem. The industry is not growing fast as it could be because it lacks good infrastructure and support.
A new report called The State of Nigeria’s Creative Economy 2026 Report talked to 377 professionals in eight different areas. It found out that Nigeria does not have a problem with people but rather with the systems that should be helping them succeed.
The report was made by ID Africa and Frontyard together. It pointed out some issues that are affecting the industry. These include electricity that’s not reliable not enough money to borrow problems with getting paid not enough training and concerns about rules and regulations.
The biggest problem that creative professionals face every day is not having a supply of electricity. This is more of a problem than not having enough money or dealing with piracy. The report also found out that than 80% of creatives spend a lot of time doing administrative tasks, which takes away, from the time they have to actually create.
For people who want to work with others in countries it is hard to get paid across borders. This makes it difficult for them to fully participate in the creative economy.
With all these challenges the report says that this is a chance to build better systems to support Nigeria’s creative talent. It says that the government, investors and private companies should work together to improve infrastructure provide money teach skills and support the industry.
The report says that Nigeria’s creative professionals are already making work that is recognised around the world. Now it is time to create the systems that will help the industry keep growing and reach its potential. Nigeria’s creative industry has a lot to offer. With the right support it can do even more.
