Bola Ahmed Tinubu has officially secured the presidential nomination of the All Progressives Congress ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 presidential election, confirming his bid for a second term in office.
The Nigerian leader emerged victorious in the party’s primary process after defeating businessman Stanley Osifo in what party officials described as a landslide result. Tinubu is expected to be formally unveiled as the APC’s presidential candidate during a ceremony in Abuja.
First elected in 2023, Tinubu has consistently signaled his intention to remain in office for another four years. His administration has focused on economic reforms aimed at attracting foreign investment and restructuring key sectors of the economy.
Despite those efforts, many Nigerians continue to face rising living costs and economic hardship. Inflation climbed sharply in 2024, while fuel prices and the cost of basic goods increased significantly across the country.
The APC currently controls the majority of Nigeria’s states following a series of defections from opposition parties, strengthening Tinubu’s position heading into the election campaign.
Opposition parties are expected to announce their own presidential candidates in the coming weeks as preparations intensify for the January 2027 vote in Africa’s most populous nation.
