The reported development relates to his immigration status in the US while he remains under investigation in Ghana over multiple corruption-related allegations linked to his time in office.

Ofori-Atta, who served as Finance Minister from 2017 to 2024, is being investigated by Ghana’s Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) over several issues, including government contracts, public spending decisions, and the controversial National Cathedral project.

He has been residing in the United States, where his legal team says he is receiving medical treatment, while Ghanaian authorities have repeatedly requested his return for questioning.

The OSP previously declared him a fugitive from justice, citing his failure to appear for scheduled investigative interviews. His lawyers, however, maintain that he has engaged authorities through official communication and representatives.

The anti-corruption body has stated it will continue pursuing legal measures to secure his return to Ghana as investigations proceed.

Legal analysts note that any US immigration outcome does not affect ongoing criminal investigations in Ghana, which remain subject to the country’s judicial process.

The situation now leaves Ofori-Atta’s immediate residency prospects in the United States more secure, while legal scrutiny in Ghana continues.
