Harry and Meghan Plan Joint UK Visit
Prince Harry and Meghan are set to make their first joint public appearance since reportedly returning to live in the United Kingdom in August, with a visit to Nottingham scheduled for Thursday.
Nottingham Visit Marks Public Return
According to The Sunday Times, the couple will visit Nottingham, central England, where they made their first joint appearance after announcing their engagement in 2017. Their planned engagement is being viewed as a sign that they intend to maintain a public profile.
Royal Status Dispute Continues
The reported plans come amid disagreement over the couple’s status within the Royal Family. A letter from King Charles III last month reportedly described their position as similar to that of private citizens, adding that they should not be addressed as His and Her Royal Highness.
Charities to Benefit From Visit
Harry and Meghan are expected to visit projects run by three charities supporting young people and local communities. Their work includes music, film, sport and efforts to tackle food poverty.
Family Rift Remains
The couple stepped back from royal duties in 2020 and moved to California amid tensions with the Royal Family. Although they have reportedly improved relations with the king, Harry remains estranged from his elder brother, Prince William, the heir to the throne.
Return to Britain After Six Years
Harry and Meghan, 45, reportedly returned to live in the UK in August with their children, Archie, seven, and Lilibet, five, after spending several years in California. They are expected to travel back to the United States for Christmas.
A friend quoted in the report said the couple did not expect to be invited to the Royal Family’s traditional Christmas gathering at the king’s Sandringham estate in eastern England.
