Russia says seven killed after drone strikes beach in southwest Russia
Russian officials say at least seven people, including three children, were killed and around 40 others injured after a Ukrainian drone struck a crowded beach in southwest Russia.
The incident happened in a popular holiday area frequented by Russian tourists. Authorities are investigating whether the drone hit the beach directly or was intercepted before impact. Some reports suggest the intended target may have been a Russian naval base about 40 kilometres away. Ukraine has not commented on the incident.
The attack came hours after an apparent Ukrainian drone strike hit a warehouse belonging to Russia’s largest online retailer, Wildberries, about 180 kilometres east of Moscow.
The latest developments follow deadly Russian missile strikes on Kyiv on Saturday, which killed at least nine people.
As the war continues, drone attacks are increasingly reaching areas deep inside Russia that were once largely untouched by the conflict, bringing the realities of the war closer to civilians.
