Saudi Tennis Exhibition Postponed After Deadly Attacks
Saudi Arabia’s Six Kings Slam tennis exhibition, featuring Carlos Alcaraz, Novak Djokovic and Alexander Zverev, has been postponed following deadly attacks and escalating security concerns in Riyadh. The tournament has been rescheduled for December 27–30.
Star-Studded Tournament Delayed
The three-day exhibition was originally scheduled to begin on October 21 in the Saudi capital. Australia’s Alex de Minaur and Americans Taylor Fritz and Learner Tien were also expected to compete.
Organisers said the postponement followed an assessment of logistical and organisational challenges that could affect the tournament and the audience experience.
Attacks Raise Security Concerns
The decision follows attacks attributed to Yemen’s Houthi movement, including a reported missile strike on Riyadh’s airport that killed 13 people and injured more than 300.
Saudi Arabia’s energy infrastructure was also targeted, prompting the kingdom’s energy minister to promise a serious response.
Football Fixtures Also Rescheduled
Several Saudi Pro League matches have been postponed or moved because of logistical concerns. Fixtures involving Al-Nassr, Al-Hilal and Al-Ittihad have been rescheduled, with Cristiano Ronaldo’s Al-Nassr among the affected teams.
Ronaldo scored for Al-Nassr in an Asian Champions League match on Monday that was delayed by an hour following a missile alert.
Golf Event Under Review
The Asian Tour said it was closely monitoring the situation ahead of the PIF Saudi International, scheduled for November 18–21 at Riyadh Golf Club.
The tour confirmed it was discussing the developing situation with Golf Saudi as organisers assess whether the event can proceed as planned.
