At least three people have died after a vehicle collided with an elephant inside Murchison Falls National Park in Uganda, authorities confirmed.
According to the Uganda Police Force, the accident happened on Sunday evening as a vehicle carrying seven officials from the Uganda Revenue Authority travelled from Arua city to the capital, Kampala.
Four other passengers were injured in the collision and were initially taken to a nearby hospital before later being transferred to Kampala for further medical treatment.
Authorities have not released information regarding the condition of the elephant involved in the crash.
Following the incident, the Uganda Wildlife Authority urged motorists driving through protected wildlife areas to remain cautious, warning that wild animals frequently cross roads within national parks.
Road accidents are relatively common in Uganda, while encounters between humans and wildlife have also increased in recent years as growing communities expand closer to protected conservation zones.
The tragic incident has once again highlighted concerns about road safety and wildlife management in areas surrounding Uganda’s national parks.
