Mediators call for ceasefire commitments to be upheld
Turkey, Egypt and Qatar have strongly condemned what they describe as ongoing Israeli violations of the Gaza ceasefire.
The three countries, which have played key roles as mediators, issued a joint statement on Monday following renewed Israeli strikes in Gaza that reportedly killed more than 20 people.
Civilian casualties
The mediators particularly condemned attacks on health facilities and infrastructure, as well as the resulting civilian casualties, including women and children.
They described the reported violations as a “flagrant violation” of international and international humanitarian law.
Ceasefire under pressure
The countries called on Israel to fully honour its commitments under the ceasefire agreement.
They warned that the attacks could undermine efforts to implement the second phase of the agreement, particularly after Hamas agreed to the proposed roadmap and committed to confining its weapons.
Call for humanitarian aid
Turkey, Egypt and Qatar said the continued violence threatens de-escalation efforts and is worsening conditions for civilians in Gaza.
They urged the international community to pressure Israel to meet its obligations and called for the unhindered delivery of humanitarian and medical supplies into the territory.
Gaza health authorities say at least 1,230 Palestinians have been killed since the October deal.
