Tyla to host A*POP Takeover at Gold Reef City

South African Grammy Award-winning singer Tyla is set to celebrate her latest album, A*POP, with fans at Gold Reef City in Johannesburg on August 16.

Homecoming celebration

The Johannesburg amusement park will be transformed for a special A*POP Takeover, presented in partnership with South African Tourism and powered by Absa. The event will bring together Tyla and her fans, known as the Tygers, for a day celebrating her new music and Johannesburg roots.

Johannesburg remains close to her heart

Tyla said Johannesburg played an important role in shaping her as both a person and an artist. She described the city as home and said she was excited to reconnect with her original supporters at Gold Reef City, a place that holds special memories for many Joburg residents.

Fans get the chance to attend

Tyla has invited fans to participate in a TikTok challenge using songs from her A*POP album for a chance to win tickets to the event. South African Tourism will also provide transport for selected fans from different parts of Gauteng.

Celebrating A*POP

Released on July 24, A*POP is Tyla’s second album and follows the international success of her self-titled debut. The Johannesburg celebration comes as the singer returns home after performing for audiences around the world.

Tyla’s connection with South Africa

Tyla has repeatedly spoken about the importance of family, home and her South African roots. Tourism Minister Patricia de Lille praised the singer for promoting South Africa internationally and highlighting the country’s culture and people.

Another fan event in Johannesburg

This is not Tyla’s first major fan-focused event in the country. Two years ago, she held a one-day album pop-up and meet-and-greet at Mall of Africa in Midrand to celebrate the success of her debut album.
