Von der Leyen in Kyiv as Ukraine Marks Four Years of Russia’s War

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen has visited Kyiv as Ukraine commemorates the four-year anniversary of Russo-Ukrainian War.

Her visit comes amid continued fighting and intensified diplomatic efforts to support Ukraine’s defence against Russia’s full-scale invasion, which began in February 2022.

Von der Leyen met with Ukrainian officials and leaders to reaffirm the EU’s support for Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. She expressed solidarity with the Ukrainian people and pledged ongoing assistance in security, economic, and humanitarian areas.

Commemorative events in Kyiv highlighted the resilience of civilians and soldiers who have endured years of conflict. The anniversary serves as a reminder of the human cost of the war, as well as continued calls from international leaders for a negotiated end to the fighting.

Von der Leyen’s presence in the capital underscores the EU’s diplomatic commitment to Ukraine at a critical moment in the conflict’s fourth year.
