Tyla Unveils ‘A*Pop’ Album as Global Star Reinvents Her Sound with Bold New Era

South African music star Tyla has officially announced her highly anticipated second album, APop*, set for release on July 24.

The project will be released through Since ’93, an entertainment company under RCA Records, marking a major step in her growing global career.

The announcement came alongside a sleek and visually striking trailer, hinting at a bold and confident new chapter for the 24-year-old artist.

Tyla revealed that APop* will explore a wide mix of genres, expanding beyond her signature “popiano” sound — a fusion of pop, R&B, and amapiano that propelled her onto international charts. This time, she describes the album as more playful, self-assured, and creatively free.

The teaser reinforces that direction, presenting the album as “dance, African, unapologetic, fun, confident, global,” signaling a stronger artistic identity.

The 14-track album will include standout songs such as “Is It” from her previous mixtape, the rising single “She Did It Again” featuring Zara Larsson, and “Chanel,” which has already achieved gold certification in the United States.

APop* follows her breakout debut album Tyla and its extended version Tyla+, released in 2024, which launched her into global stardom.

In an interview with Rolling Stone, Tyla reflected on how fast-paced her debut era was, describing it as overwhelming and rushed. Now, she says she has a clearer vision and stronger control over her sound and message.

“I feel like the first album, it was very hectic… now I know more about my direction and what I want to say,” she explained, adding that the new project feels “fresh and so Tyla.”

The album rollout is already generating buzz. Tyla was recently spotted in New York City promoting the project, signing her i-D cover and distributing branded merchandise, including burger boxes featuring the album’s name.

A neon yellow promotional bus and billboards in Times Square have also amplified anticipation for the release.

The album artwork was created by John Patrikas, known for his work on tour visuals for Sabrina Carpenter.

With “Chanel” already performing strongly and “She Did It Again” gaining momentum, APop* is shaping up to be one of the most anticipated global releases of the year.
