Robinson, widely recognised as Africa’s “Sneaker Queen,” made a strong impression at the internationally renowned event, using the opportunity to connect with influential figures from the worlds of entertainment, business and media. Her presence at Cannes Lions highlighted her growing influence on the global stage and reinforced her status as one of Africa’s rising media entrepreneurs.

Throughout her stay on the French Riviera, Robinson documented her experiences on social media, sharing moments with several high-profile personalities. Among those she met were actress and television star Keke Palmer, entrepreneur and podcast host Steven Bartlett, and renowned streetwear designer Jeff Staple.

However, one encounter stood above the rest.

In an emotional Instagram Story, Robinson revealed her excitement before meeting Oprah Winfrey, joking about spending nearly R1,000 on a short Uber ride just to attend an event where the legendary broadcaster would be present.

After finally meeting Oprah, Robinson could barely contain her excitement.

“I met Mama O,” she wrote, describing the experience as a dream come true. She jokingly added that she could retire after achieving such a memorable moment, highlighting just how much the meeting meant to her.

Beyond the celebrity encounters, Robinson also had professional achievements to celebrate. Her self-funded fashion and sneaker-focused series, Kickin’ It With Kim Jayde, was officially selected for the 2026 Diversity in Cannes Short Film Showcase.

The accomplishment is particularly significant given the competition involved. The project was chosen from more than 200 submissions originating from five continents, demonstrating the international appeal and impact of Robinson’s work.

Adding further prestige to the recognition, the showcase is supported by Viola Davis‘s production company, JuVee Productions. The selection represents a major breakthrough for Robinson and highlights the growing global visibility of African storytelling and creative talent.

When she was not attending screenings, networking sessions and festival events, Robinson spent time exploring the French Riviera and sharing travel advice with her followers. Partnering with Air France, she offered practical tips for South Africans hoping to visit the region without overspending.

Among her recommendations was staying in the nearby town of Antibes rather than in Cannes itself. According to Robinson, Antibes offers a more affordable and relaxed experience while remaining only a short distance from the festival action.

She also encouraged travellers to carry cash for visits to local bakeries and reminded visitors that simple French greetings and good manners can help create positive interactions with locals.

Robinson’s Cannes Lions experience reflects both personal and professional growth. From meeting one of her biggest inspirations to receiving international recognition for her creative work, the trip marked a defining moment in her career.

As her influence continues to expand beyond South Africa, many see Robinson as a powerful example of African talent making waves on the global stage. Her success at Cannes serves as a reminder that determination, creativity and self-investment can open doors to opportunities once thought impossible.
