Singer to Be Sentenced in October After Guilty Plea
American singer Chris Brown has pleaded guilty to affray over an incident at a London nightclub in 2023, bringing a major development to the high-profile court case.
The 37-year-old entered his guilty plea at Southwark Crown Court on Friday during a brief hearing that lasted less than five minutes.
He will be sentenced on October 26, 2026.
More Serious Charges Dropped
Brown had originally denied more serious charges, including attempting to cause grievous bodily harm, causing actual bodily harm and possessing an offensive weapon, described as a tequila bottle.
Those charges have now been dropped, leaving the singer to be sentenced only for affray.
Under UK law, affray involves using or threatening unlawful violence in a way that causes another person to fear for their safety.
Co-Defendant Also Pleads Guilty
Brown’s co-defendant, rapper Omololu Akinlolu, professionally known as Hoody Baby, also pleaded guilty to affray.
The incident took place at the Tape nightclub, a private members’ venue in London’s Mayfair district, on February 19, 2023.
Brown Arrives to Support From Fans
Brown arrived at court wearing a beige suit and baseball cap, accompanied by security personnel.
Fans gathered outside the courthouse, playing his music, holding signs and cheering as he entered the building.
The Grammy-winning singer is known for hit songs including “Loyal,” “Look At Me Now,” and “With You.”
Sentencing Set for October
The court scheduled sentencing for both Brown and Akinlolu on October 26.
Earlier in the case, Brown was granted bail after paying a £5 million security fee, allowing him to continue his international tour under strict travel conditions.
The guilty plea concludes the criminal proceedings over the nightclub incident, with the court now set to determine the appropriate sentence later this year.
