Nigerian actor Alexx Ekubo has been announced dead, with friends, colleagues, and fans paying tribute to the much-loved actor via their social media pages.
Ekubo, born Alexx Ekubo-Okwaraeke on April 10, 1986 in Port Harcourt was announced to have died on Monday, May 11, 2026, after he was diagnosed with kidney cancer. He was 40.
Since news broke about his death, colleagues from Nollywood have thronged Instagram and X to celebrate the late actor, affectionately referred to as “Ikuku” by his friends.
Fellow actor and film maker, Omoni Oboli took to Instagram where she described the late actor as her best friend and admitted to being heartbroken after news broke of his death.
Media mogul Mo Abudu also took to Instagram to pour out her heart following the news. “He called me Mum, this I was grateful for, we had a great relationship I wished I had followed up with our last conversation”.
Actress, Funke Akindele expressed how heartbroken and devastated she was to have lost her “homeboy” as she remembered the sweet memories they had together, “Oh Ikuku! This hurts”. Actor, Kunle Remi shared how his “heart is heavy” with the news.
Ruth Kadiri, Kate Henshaw, Yvonne Jegede, Lancelot Imasuen, Bolanle Ninalowo, among others, have all expressed grief and celebrated the late actor, remembering him for his great character.
Confirming the death, Godwin Nnadiekwe shared that the late actor had written a will, expressing heartbreak about the unfortunate news.
For months running into years, fans raised an alarm over the late actor’s withdrawal from social media since December 2024. He recently made the rounds with a video that captured him looking quite thin while having a fun time with children, prompting an increase in concern.
Charismatic and funny actor, Ekubo who made his Nollywood debut years ago, maintained a lasting impact on the movie industry where he became an household name, and had over a decade’s career under his belt.
