New rules to benefit around one million people from April
Disabled people in England will be able to use their bus passes for free at any time of day from 1 April.
The current weekday restriction, which limits free travel to between 09:30 and 23:00, will be removed.
Wider access
The government estimates around one million people could benefit from the change, making it easier for disabled people to travel to work, attend events and carry out everyday activities.
Disability charities welcomed the move, describing it as a way to remove barriers and end differences in travel rules across England.
£60m scheme
The £60m policy will be funded through the budgets of the Department for Transport and Department for Work and Pensions.
Prime Minister Andy Burnham said it was unfair that disabled people could not currently use their passes at certain times of the day.
UK comparison
Scotland and Wales already provide free bus travel for disabled people at all times.
Northern Ireland offers free travel to blind people and disabled war veterans, while other disabled pass holders receive half-fare travel.
